Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine. It usually consists of two curves: a primary abnormal curve, and a compensatory curve in the opposite direction. Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis is one of the most common deformities to affect young people, and typically worsens with age. The cause of this deformity is still unknown, and research is being conducted all the time to find out more about it.

Do I have Scoliosis?

The common test for scoliosis is the forward bending test, which in many cases is performed by a school nurse. Unfortunately, this test is only positive when the curve becomes moderate to severe. Because treatment is fastest and most effective during the early stages, screening by xray is the best way to determine the presence of a scoliosis.

What are my Scoliosis Treatment Options?

The approach to scoliosis varies significantly based on how large the curve is. The conventional method is to watch and wait, i.e. not do anything, until the mild curve worsens to moderate, then put the patient in a brace for 23 hours a day until they stop growing. If the brace fails and the curve worsens to severe, surgery is usually recommended. There are several types of surgery, but most include cutting away pieces of the spine and they all include metal implants. Failure of the metal implants is common, and a second surgery is often required.

Then there is our approach.

How is our approach different?

We don’t see the point in watching and waiting. We start therapies as soon as a curve is detected, regardless of its size. Combining advanced therapies with specific chiropractic treatment and home exercises, our approach is non-invasive and very safe. As opposed to bracing, our therapies can be performed in less than 2 hours a day, don’t require the patient to wear anything cumbersome and uncomfortable during their daily activities, and are actually designed to make the curves better, not just stop progression.

Our approach is so different because we are not just treating the spinal deformity, but the other factors that go along with it. Poor balance, forward head posture, nutritional special needs and neurological imbalance are almost universal among scoliosis cases, yet are ignored by other treatment approaches.

Does this approach work for everyone?

No single approach works for everyone. The results vary based on several factors that will be measured when we examine you. Because our care is non-invasive, safe, and cost-effective, it is to your advantage to try us first. When our care is effective, you won’t need any other type of treatment. If our care is not going to work in your case or if it does not seem to be working after initial treatment, we will refer you to another type of care immediately.

What if I’ve tried Chiropractic before?

Our therapies and exercises make all the difference! We are different from most other chiropractors in the type of adjusting and therapy that we use. Everything you do in our clinic is customized for your individual scoliosis.

What are the risks of this therapy?

The risks associated with this therapy are very minor and vary from case to case. The doctor will go over the risks of your treatment at your personal report of findings. We would like to present the risks and benefits of all types of treatments so that you can make an informed decision on your care.

How long will this take, and how much does it cost?

We wish there as an easy way to determine this, but scoliosis is a very complex and unpredictable disorder, and our treatment is constantly evolving to be better and more effective. Even a ballpark figure would vary based on the very specific findings we get from your initial exams. We promise you this: our care will be cost effective compared to other methods of treatment, we will do everything in our power to correct your scoliosis until you are satisfied with the results, we will never perform any procedures which have not demonstrated results in the past without informing you first, and we will never perform or recommend anything that we don’t think is necessary to getting the results you want.
